A quick `catch-up` post to briefly show my recent (mid-late August) catches here at west Llanelli. From top to bottom: 1. An l-album wainscot (fairly regular in late summer here along the SE Carms coast), 2 & 3. Bordered straw, an individual caught by day in the Millennium Coastal Park, SE of Pwll, 4. Scrobipalpa ocellatella, a micro-moth caught by several Carmarthenshire recorders following an influx in the second half of August, 5. Cream-bordered green pea, another quite regular species here along the Carmarthenshire coastal strip where it was first noted in 2015 (at Pwll), 6 - Palpita vitrealis, a migrant species from more southern climes (where it feeds on olive foliage) that I caught unusually regularly during this August, with a maximum of four on one night: others in the county have also noted this moth. 7. Nutmeg, a species that is known from the Llanelli area but has been of irregular occurrence in recent years. Others have caught it (though not in our county) during the recent hot spell which may have encouraged dispersal. 8. - the leek moth Acrolepiopsis assectella, a pest species of cultivated leeks and which has been spreading N and W in recent years; it is a new county record for Carmarthenshire.
(Some of my scarce bordered straw photos were given in my previous post)
