What happens if you trap on consecutive nights – let`s say three – and a single individual of the same species of uncommon moth is recorded on each of the nights? This happened to me during a very recent phase of migratory activity when I caught a scarce bordered straw on three nights (in each case the moths were released the next morning after they were photographed). This species can vary in its colouration which helped separation of the three individuals. None of these moths reappeared on the nights after they were trapped, even though they were released during the daytime before trapping. Obviously these were different individuals.
