There`s mouse in my trap!

A rather nondescript moth that is rarely recorded these days (or possibly overlooked) is the mouse moth, one of which was trapped by Lizzie Wilberforce and Rob Parry at Garnant on 25th August. I have not personally seen one since the late 1980s when it came to my moth trap in Llwynhendy, Llanelli - Barry Stewart was present when we were going through the catch and he told me to watch how it scuttled away - just like a mouse, hence its name - when released. Other noctuids, such some the yellow underwings also like to run off. The mouse moth was also recorded last year, at Llanybydder on the Carmarthenshire side of the Teifi Valley, so please be aware of it. (Photo below by Lizzie Wilberforce).
