More moths from suburbia...

The trap was out again last night (Sunday,17/7) and it`ll be out tonight too. A good range of moths were present and there are several micros still to look at - they are currently residing in the fridge, which probably suits them given the high temperatures outside - there`s just been a power cut, but thankfully only for c 30 mins or so.

Of last nights macros, there were four cream-bordered green peas and six four-spotted footmen, a blue-bordered carpet, slender brindle, poplar moth, scarce footman and a scarlet tiger, plus many others. I found the wing of a leopard moth near the trap - but what predated it is anyone`s guess. I would have thought it to be too big for the pipistrelles that flew around the house and I was up at dawn (when it was still semi dark - I initially had to use a torch to look at the catch).

Above: of the 6 four-spotted footmen, two were females.
Above: one of the four cream-bordered green peas (the most that I`ve ever caught on one night).
Above: scarlet tiger - when I gently prodded it with a grass stem to open its wings, off it flew!
