I took my actinic to just near where Barry had been but the catch was limited.
There were 54 species, nothing unexpected or unusual except this. I have concluded it must be an aberrant Common White Wave but the bars are completely wrong. Any other thoughts welcome. I did have two normal ones.
PS I've kept it for now.
Just a thought: the shape looks good for a Cabera species, are there any European/North African relatives that might have floated in on one of those southerly winds?
ReplyDeleteAnother thought: after an email conversation with Ian, I Googled Common Wave and amongst the 'more images' is one from britishlepidoptera.weebly.com which seems to show some convergence of the innermost cross-bands close to the leading edge, somewhat similar to what seems to have happened on your moth. The origin stated to be Loch Naver, Sutherland.
ReplyDeleteI'd agree with a Common Wave aberrant
