Llansteffan Moths

On the night of the 8th I caught this moth, a Bordered Straw, only once before have I caught this moth at a friend's small holding in Llangain on 20/06/15, 7 years ago, so I was very pleased to have this identified in my own garden. I wasn't sure what it was, thinking firstly a Sallow. Ian & Sam confirmed Bordered Straw.

The next moth is even better, but caught at my alternative site last night 12/09/22. At first glance under the egg boxes, I thought a big grey moth, ooh it's got to be a Hawk-moth. Goodie a different one. Then I realised what it was, so I made sure I had a few photo's in case it decided to fly without me getting any, and then no-one would believe that I'd caught one, especially Ian.

I can't trap here regularly as its a permissive site only, but when I do trap, I have had some really nice moths. To be honest I don't care what I catch, I enjoy the boring brown headachy ones just for the data collecting. But I do get a buzz from a rare one.

A lovely Straw Dot

And one of my favourite moths Angle Shades
I won't put the full list down but I had 35 different species. A good night.
