Looking at earlier pics from this year I have just realised that the photo I had down as Red Twin-spot Carpet looks like the elusive red form of Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet. Here are 3 for comparison.

A query from yesterday morning. Looks as if it ought to be a Bucculatrix but I can't find a match. Any thoughts anyone? Only about 4mm long.

Have a look at Jon Baker`s article on carpet i/d in Carms Moth Gp Newsl No 3 (see `newsletter archive` at top R-hand corner of page).
ReplyDeleteAs for your Bucculatrix, it has the fluffy head of that genus but...?
I did consider Trifurcula, but the leg posture is different and it has white eye caps, also the rear wing shape is a bit different; size and general colouration is approx the same though.In truth, I don`t know!

ReplyDeleteI've had a look at Trifurcula immundella but agree it's probably not that.
I'll let you know if I get an answer anywhere.
