Amongst the bees nectaring on a pink Rhododendron in the garden this morning was an insect with very un-beelike movements. Not the Hawk Moth species that I was hoping to see, but nonetheless welcome was the first Humming-bird HM of the year, an unexpected sight at 8am!
I apologise for the poor quality image, taken in a hurry, only posted for confirmation purposes.

I have had one here for the last 3 days - I am assuming it is the same one! Enjoing the nectar from the valarian outside the house so excellent views.
ReplyDeleteCould be the same one Sally, not too far to fly. I wonder whether they have a regular round of feeding sites, so will keep an eye on the Rhododendron at 8am for the next few days.
ReplyDeleteI`ll have to keep an eye out for them here in SE Carms. I`d suggest that it was not the same moth on Sally`s valerian and your rhodo, Chris.
ReplyDeleteI saw two painted ladies today (Mon, 3/6).
