Last night (17/5), I was unable to trap - or `dusk`, see below - as much as I would have wished (the original plan was to trap away from home) but commitments meant otherwise; just one actinic trap was placed in the garden.
There were - as would be expected at this time of year - a couple of FFYs, including this orange footman. It is said to be a species of well-structured woodland with appropriate micro-climates for lichen growth; the position of my garden immediately next to extensive tree cover may support this.
Above: orange footman, Stradey, Llanelli.
P.S. `Dusking`....remember that on suitable evenings (last night, Thursday, would have been ideal) `dusking` for moths such as tortricids can be very profitable indeed and can yield moths where trapping fails.
A chance to `up` your local scores and to sometimes provide pleasant mothing when you cannot trap.

Ah, it was the Footman, in the garden, with the actinic light! Sorry Ian, that's Cludo not Agatha Christie.
ReplyDeleteNice moth though we don't get them too often up here.
