Damp Squib (Episode 2)
This one last night was almost a carbon copy of Episode 1, plenty of moth activity around the traps at bed-time in the mild, muggy conditions, but light rain developed overnight and this had driven most of the 'outsiders' away by the time I checked at 6am. Still plenty of moths in the traps though, dominated of course by LYUs and Silver Ys. Also present were a Dark Sword-grass, a Rush Veneer, 2 Centre-barred Sallows, 2 Ringed China-marks, and a Pale-shouldered Brocade - presumably 2nd generation.

Neglected Rustic has 41 previous Carms records from scattered sites close to heath/moor, but doesn't seem to turn up regularly anywhere. Records come from 31 sites, with 5 sightings from Rhandirmwyn Rothamstead and 3 from Cwmllwyd being the only sites with more than 2 sightings.

ReplyDeleteThank you both, I thought there was a good chance that NR had turned up at Steve's place. It took some persuasion for the hindwing to be revealed, Steve. They don't like their wings being played with!
