Last night was warmer than of late, dry, the wind died down in the evening, and the moth population responded positively to the improved conditions. Nothing spectacular, but 23 species were recorded, including FFYs Oak Hook-tip, Brown Silver-line, Peppered Moth, Poplar Hawk, Nut-tree Tussock, Pale-shouldered Brocade, and Treble Lines. Those of you who've had at least some of these species earlier this year should bear in mind that we're backward in these parts!

Yesterday my wife encountered a caterpillar whilst she was weeding a flower bed:
I have no photographic guide to noctuid larvae other than the illustrations in the first edition of Chris Manley's book; excellent though they are they're not comprehensive. The nearest 'match' is Autumnal Rustic which would be very possible since the moth is not uncommon here. Please can anyone confirm or refute this?
