Trapping under cover

Rain was forecast last night so I put the MV trap in the greenhouse, recently stripped of its tomato plants after a reasonably productive season.  Moth trapping was less productive, though, 27 moths of 15 species were recorded.  Eight of the moths actually entered the trap: Angle Shades, Common Marbled Carpet, Green Carpet, Setaceous Hebrew Character, Silver Y, Snout, Square-spot Rustic and - you've guessed it - Vestal.

Those remaining outside the trap were Brimstone, Frosted Orange ( FFY), second-generation-ers in Flame and Straw Dot, Canary-shouldered and Dusky Thorns, Centre-barred Sallow, Rosy Rustic, and several more Common Marbled Carpets and Silver Ys.

  1. Thanks Ian, I might try again later in the week, southerly winds forecast for tomorrow.
