Some caterpillars...

The grey dagger and dark dagger cannot really be told apart with certainty without resorting to dissection, but the caterpillars differ quite markedly. The grey dagger caterpillar below was found feeding on one of my apple trees today (17/9).


...and the buff-tip caterpillar shown below was spotted feeding on osier Salix viminalis at Erw-las, Llwynhendy yesterday, when I was out looking for rusts on willows.


....and another, found this afternoon whilst tidying the garden - an elephant hawk-moth (below).
