Off leaf-mining...

About to depart for the leaf-mining course at Cilgerran, where Chris Handoll and I will be representing Carmarthenshire moth recorders.
Below is a leaf of field maple, collected at Penygaer, Llanelli on Sunday 11th Sept. Are the marginal leaf-folds caused by Phyllonorycter acerifoliella? Please correct or confirm - thanks.

  1. That looks correct, though I'd want to check that none of those were folds (rather than mines) just to rule out Caloptilia semifascia. You've probably been told all that by Dave anyway!

  2. Yes, thanks Sam. I brought along a few Carms leaf-mines which Dave confirmed or det`d for me and he used them in the course, as some of the host plants were not present at Cilgerran.
