Numerous beetles, crane flies and caddis flies entered my 22W actinic trap last night, but very few moths. However, one was particularly welcome, namely a Heath Rustic, which I've had only once before. The others comprised 2 Brimstones, a Feathered Gothic, a Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, a damaged Thorn of uncertain identity, and 2
Agonopterix heracliana (I think!)

Damaged Thorn, possibly Dusky (note uncrossed legs)
I have a theory that most of my resident moths have travelled up to Scotland to help their Scottish cousins obtain independence. They'll be back on Friday though, either with their tails between their legs or their heads held high.
The heath rustic is a nice record Chris! I`ll be trapping tonight at home, as the weather looks good and a little bird tells me that Barry Stewart is planning to trap at WWT Penclacwydd tonight.
ReplyDeleteLooks good for Dusky to me (rests with wings at a steeper angle than August).
ReplyDeleteThanks George, that's what I thought.
