Elephant turns into a Serpent....

I have n`t been trapping recently due to unsuitable weather, but an elephant hawk-moth caterpillar was walking across my garden path this afternoon. I picked it up and then placed it back on the ground where it raised its head and started swaying in a to-and-fro fashion; this, together with the `eye markings` made it look like a little snake - perhaps sufficient to scare off a predator.
