Sam recently received a photograph (taken on 19th August) of a death`s-head hawk moth caterpillar in a private garden at Llandeilo. I wonder how many more are out there, unseen or unrecorded, in gardens or allotments? They feed on potato foliage then wander to find a site to pupate, when they are usually spotted - they are unmistakable and large. The photo below was taken by Anne Wright.
