Maenol 14-15th June

There were plenty of moths out and about yesterday evening, several appeared at the lounge window but very few made it as far as my small actinic trap.  The only 'first for year' was a Single-dotted Wave, pretty but not very exciting.  The excitement was saved for later this morning when I came to turn on the garden tap:

This Privet Hawk Moth was resting on the wooden support for the tap.  Not just a first for year but for me, a 'first for a decade'!

  1. Well-deserved Chris. Frequent with me, but there is plenty of suburban privet locally. Nowadays a neglected garden choice but good to attract P H-M! Easy from cuttings.
