After spotting several painted ladies in the garden yesterday (5+ on Verbena bonariensis), I wondered whether any migrant moths might have accompanied them. Out went the two traps (the MV did n`t light up, so some checking/repairing to do - or a new trap!) but the catch this morning was very poor, with no migrants except for a single rush veneer. In the actinic trap was a large moth which, until it moved its wings, momentarily gave me hope of `something blue and classy` that was around about this time last year. However, the red hind-wings made me realise that it was a (worn and slightly battered) red underwing. It was quickly checked in case it was one of the scarcer/rarer `red underwing types`, which it was n`t.
Still looks classy to me.
