Loads of them on the buddleia these past two days, mostly Small Tortoiseshells, Red Admirals (seem to be having a bumper year), Peacocks, and the occasional Painted Lady. This morning brought along a stranger though, one I haven't seen here before:
I believe that it's a Silver-washed Fritillary, perhaps someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Sadly it didn't let me get a better photo of its underside.
Looks like Silver-washed to me. It's a big butterfly so can't be much else.
ReplyDeleteThanks Adam. At first sight it appeared green and I thought Dark Green Frit. but the wing markings aren't right. We're a little distant from the sort of woodland habitat I associate with SWF.
