I had a better mix of moths last night (2/7), but no migratory species were present in spite of me spotting a silver y and a red admiral in the garden during the afternoon. Highlights were broad-barred white, privet hawk-moth and a small elephant hawk-moth.
Up in the Teifi Valley, Arfon Williams has been doing well recently, with cloaked carpet, waved carpet and a wandering Catopria margaritella coming to his garden trap.
A really good result awaited Belinda Jackson in her moth trap during this last week when she caught a cream-bordered green pea at her garden NW of Carmarthen. This constitutes the first inland record in our county - hitherto records have been in the Pembrey/Burry Port/Llanelli area and at Llansteffan.
Regarding my earlier Mompha langiella (leaf-mine) record - see blog, I asked Sam for details of the previous Carms records, which he kindly provided:
Dafydd Davies, Rhandirmwyn (twice in 1987); Cenarth (Sam in 2004); Rhydcymerau (George Tordoff in 2010); Cnwc y llwyn, Brechfa (Sam, 2013) and Pontnewydd near Kidwelly (Barry Stewart 2015).
