Agonopterix Dilemma

This dark Agonopterix was trapped on Sunday night, it seems to be a fairly good match for A. purpurea apart from being a little on the large side (!) - f/w length about 8mm.

Any comments would be very welcome, particularly if they contain suggestions about what other species of Agonopterix might be a consideration.

  1. I think it's Agonopterix conterminella, Chris - an uncommon species that lives on willow but not as rare in Carms as A purpurea.

  2. Thank you Sam, I'd overlooked conterminella, it's a much more likely species to occur here because we've a lot of willow and sallow bordering the property.
