Micros and macro photography

For some reason the photographing of very small things is called macro photography. To get decent pictures, you need specialist equipment, that focuses at close distances and projects a large image onto the sensor. I was stricken when my old Macro lens bit the dust recently and with no prospect of repair during the current emergency, I decided to buy a stopgap replacement for less than half the price of my other lens. Lo and behold it seems to produce images that are just as good and maybe even better - this tiny micro is Aspilapteryx tringipennella, which I have caught and photographed before. I think the new lens aced it.

  1. Coincidentally, I have just had a similar problem (total failure!) with my Tamron 90mm macro lens: are you able to tell us what your new one is? It certainly looks to do a good job.

  2. Sigma 105 OS. My broken lens was a Sigma too! The Tamron has a good reputation and I know others who swear by it.
