Food Plants for moths

Can anyone recommend a book that lists the larval food plants of moths and butterflies? I know that Northumberland moth group do a comprehensive list, but I wondered about a book. Nothing like a book to pick up and browse through!
Thanks in advance.

  1. Vol. 7 Pt 2 of "The Moths and butterflies of GB & I" is one option. It is pretty extensive but I don't think I would describe it as browsing material. Light reading it isn't and not light on your wallet either.

  2. Hmmm. See what you mean. Thinking more of a list of plants with associated caterpillars. Think Vol 7 is way above my pay grade!!
    Thanks though.

  3. For micros, the new and comprehensive (2018) `A Field Guide to the Smaller Moths of GB & Ireland` Langmaid et al is very good.
Online `UK Leaf Mines` has a plants option whereby you choose your plant species and see what micros eat that plant.
The rather selective A Field Guide to Caterpillars of Butterflies & Moths of Britain & Europe Carter (1986) has caterpillars shown by food plant. More `readable` perhaps. Possibly available online cheap 2nd-hand.
