Small Argent and Sable

Very pleased to have a Small Argent and Sable in the trap this morning. It is, sadly, slightly damaged - there were 4 hornets running riot in there too - but it is a nice First for me here in Rhandirmwyn. I have caught them further North in the Elan Valleys

  1. How early do you have to get up to beat the hornets, Jane? I was up at 5am on Friday night but one wasp beat me to it, fortunately no hornets around here!

  2. I don't know how the 'night' crept in at 5am! Yet another senior moment.

  3. There was one in there when I checked at 11 before going to bed, I'm getting more and more. They are a nuisance and I know they aren't meant to be aggressive but they really buzz me here and I don't altogether trust them.
Interestingly a few nights ago, there were two dead hornets that were being feasted on by two of the Orange and black Burying beetles. Don't know if the beetles had killed the hornets.

  4. Hornets are currently doing well in Carms...good to hear that they are at Rhandirmwyn.

    1. I'm not sure that Jane is quite as pleased as you, Ian!
