Summer's usually well advanced when Rosy Rustic makes its first appearance, but this one has jumped the gun. Other notables in the small actinic trap this morning were 2 FFY Double-striped pugs (I missed out on the 1st generation), Beautiful China-mark, Sharp-angled Carpet, Double Dart, and two gelechids:
My take on these is: on the left, Caryocolum tricolorella (fairly certain), on the right Bryotropha senectella (not so sure).
If I trap again this week it will probably be with the small actinic which was reasonably productive last night, it's less hassle than the MV and doesn't attract wasps!
I get a lot of Brown micros with spots on them, I tend to assume they are Brown House Moth - they all literally look the same to me.
ReplyDeleteI get BHMs as well, Adam, I didn't think that this one looked quite right for one, but it's OK if I'm wrong. These LBJs are not easy!

ReplyDeleteHaving removed by rose-tinted spectacles I can now see that it is, indeed, Hofmannophila-like! I was put off a bit by the small size, most of the BHMs I catch are bigger than this one. Never mind, I'm pleased about the Caryocolum, not many Carms records and complements the C.blandella I've had in past years.
