Moths at Saron
This is a tiny moth measuring just 12mm. I think it is a Double Kidney, one I haven't had before. Is this correct?
Is it just me (and, presumably, Sally) seeing undersized moths that are clearly not second generation? In the last two days I have had two sightings of the same tiny Hummer, along with a dwarf Silver Y. Could it be caused by the fiercely hot spell of weather, or are my migrants second generation visitors?
I've never had one, but your specimen looks right though 12mm is below the stated size range of 13-15mm.
ReplyDeleteSpot on, Sally: nice capture, well done.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a theory...
ReplyDeleteThanks both, I did measure it so knew it was undersized - hence needing confirmsation re ID. I have seen several smallSilver Ys this year.
