Identification issues

A modest trap last night produced my first common, though attractive Bramble shoot moth.

I also had this moth, which I believe is Engrailed, but I'm not sure.
And is this tiny geometer a worn Satin Wave?
I also had my second specimen of the giant Tortrix, Lozotaenia forsterana
In addition there were FFY Barred Straw and Light Arches and another Lilac Beauty. I suspect it's not the same moth, as this specimen is much less well behaved than the previous individual.

  1. Your Engrailed looks like a Welsh Wave to me, Adam - but I'm no expert, as you may have noticed!

  2. I'm with you on Engrailed Adam, one of those plain dark grey ones. I think the wave is too worn to be able to ID with any certainty.

  3. Thanks Steve, It doesn't seem like the right shape for Welsh Wave and no sign of cryptic cross lines, which is why I thought Engrailed GMT.

  4. Perhaps the Lilac Beauty was ill-behaved because it was fed up with being caught in a trap, and who could blame it! I had three L.forsterana in my small actinic trap last night but not much else, the 6W lamp doesn't fare well on clear nights with competition from the moon.

  5. After 24 hours in solitary I turned the Lilac Beauty out to photograph it and it flew off into cover immediately!
