I did trap last night, but the power has been off all day so I haven't been able to blog, and won't have the opportunity to do so for a day or two.

Hummer at Maenol
I have just been to inspect Western Power's installation of new poles carrying high voltage cables across our land, and spotted a HBHM hovering around the boundary hedge. Of course, I didn't have the camera with me and I was some distance from the bungalow, but on the off-chance I hastened back to get the camera, not expecting the moth to be there on my return some 5 minutes later. But it was, very briefly, and I was able to take some very rapid photos. Not very good I'm afraid and I haven't time to crop, but hopefully it will be possible to see the moth, in the centre of the image.

A Hummer buzzed into the Cnwc kitchen at 18:00 (30/6/18) then spent a couple of minutes in the garden. It didn't find any easy nectar sources and soon moved on.
ReplyDeleteI was puzzled by the moth's persist scanning of this hedgerow, there's plenty of bramble blossom but nothing else that might have attracted it, whereas 200m away in the garden the honeysuckle, lavender, jasmine, valerian etc is quite fragrant and the breeze was blowing in the right direction!
