Micro???
I took an arty farty pic of a Ruby Tiger yesterday and then noticed the tiny micro sitting beside it. Any chance of a tentative identity from the two pics?
Is it Cocksfoot Moth Glyphipterix simpliciella?

Jane, the micro looks much like the Glyphipterix simpliciella I get in my garden, I posted a photo of one in a blog on Sunday along with some Micropterix spp. Regarding the Skinner moth trap, I first saw one used by Dave Grundy on his micro moth course at FSC Orielton (I'm booked on it again this year). The trap can be sealed at daybreak by gently raising the two perspex lids so that the thin end strips rest on the wooden ledge on each side, one on top of the other. I don't do this though, I have a strip of wood to lay across the entrance to seal it off.

ReplyDeleteYes, this looks good for simpliciella. Worth looking out for its slightly larger cousin G. forsterana flying around sedges in woodland areas - it has a white dot in the dark spot near the wing tip.
