I had an enjoyable trip to Talley Lakes with a group of botanists yesterday. The weather wasn't ideal for inverts but I spent most of my time looking nonetheless...highlights were a couple of fresh scarlet tigers, a burnished brass, an early thorn, beautiful china-mark, brown china-mark, 5-spot burnet, barred straw, common wave, lots of Glyphipterix thrasonella and larvae of drinker and Depressaria daucella. There was also this caterpillar feeding on common sorrel - about 35mm long. Anyone like to hazard a guess??
It might be an Orthosia, e.g. Hebrew Character, but I'm not sure.
