Carmarthenshire Moth and Butterfly Group

Slightly frustrating weather today around Capel Isaac and Salem. My mission was to visit a handful of sites found have habitat suitable for Marsh Fritillaries during our so-called "Brechfa study" of habitat in August 2016. Arriving at the first site, just south of Capel Isaac, the sun was trying to intervene amongst scudding clouds but temperature barely exceeded 15C. In the next 30 minutes, three spells of chilly sunshine each lasting a minute or so, did eventually give me 8 sightings, of which two posing on bramble were clearly very fresh. For next hour cloud thickenned into drizzle and light rain, so I had to get on with other more domestic tasks! I'll be back and getting to other areas in the study hopefully. Back over the border, a Hummingbird Hawkmoth was flying around our local garden centre glasshouse.
