Olivia Pargeter, who is working at WWT Llanelli, photographed this Adela cuprella on 14th March. There are only 5 previous confirmed Carmarthenshire records, 3 of which come from Pembrey; Penclacwydd is a new site and it's impressive that this moth has been missed by several very active moth'ers who have recorded there before. Well done Olivia!
I think that it`s a combination of maturing woodland (esp in the `Millennium Wetland` area) and a lack of daytime recording that has seemingly brought this Adela to WWT Penclacwydd. Similarly, orange underwing has colonised the site and this species too would not have occurred on the former `levels` grazings. I`m sure that Barry would have spotted them if they had been around in the late 1980s/early 1990s, when he worked there.
