Spring at last!

25 macromoths of 11 species were attracted to the MV trap in the alder grove at Cwmllwyd last night - a marked improvement over recent sessions. All common species, but they've filled some obvious gaps in the list for what has been a cold, wet and windy spring here this year. There were also four micros, common species again, two of which are illustrated below nevertheless:

 Agonopterix ocellana

Catoptilia stigmatella

Plus A. heracliana x2.

  1. You obviously chose the right night to trap, Steve. I gave it a miss last night but may try again tonight before the weather takes a turn for the worse on Friday. I guess that these C. stigmatellas are emerging from hibernation.

  2. My catches this month: 8 March = 4 moths; 13 March = 10 moths; 14 March = 29 moths of 14 species.

I've had C. stigmatella in October, November and (now) March; as you say, emerging from hibernation.
