Still the odd casual moth record to be made...

A visit to get petrol last night resulted in the finding of this solitary winter moth which had been presumably attracted by the abundance of lights, so there`s the odd moth record still to be made. Unfortunately we are not going to get a repetition of the warm weather that we enjoyed during last Christmas, when balmy southerly winds brought rare migrants our way, so it`s going to be the usual sparse winter assemblage of moths. January and February will see the emergence of various late winter/very early spring species, so please trap if the nights are relatively warm, cloudy and settled in order to get the full suite of species recorded for your trapping site.

Above: chance encounter at a petrol station - a well-marked winter moth.
