Llansteffan moths
Can anyone help with this moth caught on the 31st May, I thought Grapholita but maybe Notocelia.
Looks rather good for Pammene albuginana, which we've seen recently in Glamorgan. Worth checking with Sam whether he'd want to see it dissected to confirm.
A smashing record Mel. I saw your post last night and (it sounds like a retrospective yarn) I considered Pammene albuginana as a possibility but did not post it as was not confident. It`s probably new to Carms (check Sam`s 2013 list). I`ve been caught out too by releasing moths - a prompt `please keep` (either on the blog or by email) would help perhaps.
To be fair I only posted the photo 2 weeks after catching it, so a keep notice was no good for me. My problem is I don't know what I've caught until too late. My school record was always "could do better". :-(
You're doing very well, Mel. You've had some exceptional records in the last couple of years. Micros can be very difficult (as I know only to well); we've all got to start somewhere and with expert help from George, Sam and Ian we will get there in the end.
Thanks Steve. I can I/D the micro's I've caught previously and some common ones, but like this one I couldn't seem to put it in a family, every time I found one that looks like it, I found another similar. I'll wait for confirmation.

ReplyDeleteThanks George, only problem I've let it go.
ReplyDeleteOh well, see what Sam thinks anyway!

ReplyDeleteFirst Glam record was in 2014, and now another one this year, so perhaps it's increasing in S Wales.
