Sleepwalking towards autumn

I noticed a Bedellia somnulentella [hence the post title] larval mine on Hedge Bindweed at Cnwc y Llwyn a couple of days ago.  It was an early instar mine, about 8mm long, linear and with a young larva inside; later the larva exits the mine and starts eating 'windows' in the leaf from underneath.  Last year's 6 records of these 'windows' were the first of Bedellia in Carms.  This week's was the first of a linear mine and was new for the Brechfa area.  Please remember to check your local Bindweed leaves for mines (http://www.leafmines.co.uk/html/Lepidoptera/B.somnulentella.htm).

A visit to Pembrey yesterday (29/8) produced a few mines on Birch, Blackthorn & Hawthorn, 2 Dingy Footman and a Rosy Footman feeding on Hemp Agrimony in mid morning, and some galls on Ragwort that I should have opened up to check if they had one maggot (Diptera, Tephritidae, Sphenella marginata) or several (Diptera, Cecidomyidae, Contarinia jacobaeae) (http://www.bladmineerders.nl/plantenf/pfasteraceae/senecio.htm).
