Following on from George's Apodia bifractella post on the GMRG blog I found some larvae in Fleabane flower heads at NBGW which I identified as Ptocheuusa paupella and kept for rearing on. A couple of days ago I found more larvae at Whiteford (easily spotted by irregularities in the disc of the flower) and when checking my NBGW collection was surprised to find three had already emerged, clearly I'd collected pupae as well as larvae. Note that Apodia larvae are white and minimally sclerotised around the head area, whereas Ptocheuusa has a lot of black.
Useful tips Barry -thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous photo of Ptocheusa as well. There are only 2 previous Carms records: Jon's from Pembrey in 2003 and 2005.
