I trapped last night on MOD land bordering the Carms border but at 360m. Around 01.30 the temp dropped to 3C, so I called it a day, Between 2 traps I caught 2 moths,2 species - poplar hawkmoth and a dark brocade. Tonight its promising horrendous rain and thunder storms, so I shall be tucked up in bed, although I may be tempted to put out the Skinner under the chalet verandah.
ReplyDeleteSteve - nice record - I also had a dark brocade on Mynyd Du, at nearby Palycwrt in late May 2009.
ReplyDeleteI`m hoping to trap (at home) tonight, as I`ve had some good moths in thunderstorms. I once remember putting out the traps on Mynydd Llangyndeyrn (near Crwbin) with lightning flashes all around. I retreated homewards (and to the pub) and returned the next morning, expecting to find the traps all blown up....but they were full of confuseds (and other moths).
Dark Brocade was also our main reward for the trapping session Ian, Jon and I had a Llyn y Fan Fach. I'll post a photo of the trap location! There are only 15 Carms records, so a good species.
