Sam in his comments under the blog entitled `More Micropterix calthella` refers to a species that occurs on bilberry. This species, Micropterix aureatella should be on the wing now and over the next few weeks, and I insert below a really superb photograph taken by Jon Baker some years ago. So, if there`s bilberry in your local woods, look out for it!

I saw one last week (albeit in Coed y Bedw near Cardiff) last week and a very attractive little moth it is too. If the weather's decent next weekend I'll go and have a look for it in 'my' square
ReplyDeleteWorth looking for this moth in non-bilberry habitats too maybe as there were dozens in Coed y Bedw today in an understorey of bramble and bluebells without any bilberry!
