Tested a new Heath trap last night in the wind and rain. Put the trap in the Dutch barn, so that it stayed dry, but the results were predictably very poor. I was too impatient to wait for better weather, but anyway, when that arrives the trap will be deployed in the Cwmllwyd wetland. Following that, I have to find the means to carry all the kit up the mountain. Wish me luck, if you'd be so kind.

Yes, the weather has been unsuitable for moth trapping. I put the trap out ready to trap on Sunday and Monday nights, but decided not to even bother to switch them on.
ReplyDeleteYes, good luck re your trapping on Mynydd Du. Carrying a trap (I carry mine ready assembled) and a motorbike battery can be tiresome (and you`ll develop orang-utan arms!). I try to limit it to a 15mins walk (max) from the car, though I have done longer marathons on a few occasions. Sometimes you`ll be able to find good places to leave the trap overnight right next to a road, but not actually visible from that road...good recce`ing and planning will help. I`m sure that you`ll have some good moorland moths though Steve!
