Huw John has sent me the excellent photograph shown below of one of several orange underwings that he saw last spring at Pembrey Country Park. This species, which flies above birches in early spring, is normally very difficult to get a good view of, let alone photograph. Very occasionally one descends to ground level and such an individual was photographed by Huw. I believe that this is the first time that it has been photographed in Carmarthenshire. Thanks to Huw for forwarding the photo.
