First Mothing Session in West Carmarthenshire

Inspired by other posts (thanks!) I found a weather window and gap in my diary to put my trap out (a Skinner with MV lamp) in the back 'garden' of the cottage, just to see what's out and about up here.

The catch was:
1 March Moth Alsophila aescularia
2 Oak Beauty Biston strataria
10 Hebrew Character Orthosia gothica
and a handful of noctuids, for which I would appreciate confirmation as I'm woefully out of practice!
I make it:
1 Common Quaker Orthosia cerasi (top left)
1 Red Chestnut Cerastis rubricosa
3  Clouded Drab Orthosia incerta (upper centre and on the right).

Do feel free to correct me.  I have some more detailed pics of these moths, but didn't want to hog the blog!

    1. Thanks Sam, the variability of clouded drabs catches me out every year!

  2. No red chestnut, but otherwise I had a very similar catch at Carmel on Friday 12th. Same species, slightly different numbers
